PADI Open Water Diver Course Outline:

This course consists of three sections - upon sucessful completion of the knowledge development and the confined water pool sessions you can be considered as an Open Water Referral student and may complete your four qualifying Open Water Dives at any other PADI centre worldwide.

Knowledge Development: The course is structured on a self-study method allowing you to study in your own time. We meet at our dive centre in Basildon Essex on a Tuesday evening where we have a briefing and discussion on the sections of the manual that you have been studying and then complete a quick quiz. The course will continue with a pool session. Over the coming weeks we will continue with the same format. After the final Knowledge Development Section you sit the final exam!

But, dont worry our staff will have you well and truly ready for the exam.

Confined Water Pool Sessions: In the pool you will learn the necessary skills to scuba dive safely and with confidence. Perfecting buoyancy and learning to clear your mask of water are among the fun and exciting skills that the Orca PADI Instructor's will teach you. Watermanship skills including a 200 metre swim (no time limit) and a 10-minute tread water need to be demonstrated before moving on to the Open Water phase of the course. If you feel you are not ready to progress to open water after your confined water training, don't worry - we can arrange further sessions in the pool to get you confident with the skills you have learnt.

Open Water Dives: This is the most exciting phase of the course, there are four open water dives over two days where you will demonstrate the skills that you have learnt during your pool sessions. These scuba dives will take place at one of the designated open water dive sites.

Many people like to do the open water dives whilst on holiday in warmer waters, if this is the case please call Gary at the dive centre and he will tell you the procedure.
